Khark Island at a Glance
 
Khark island is located in 29 14 N and 50 19 E. Its distance from Boushehr is 54 Kms and 37 Kms away from Genaveh port. The island has been historically named ARAKIA, IKARA and IKARIA. The longest side of the island is an axis of 7900 ms which connects its NW side to the midest spot in the south. The widest side of the island is located in the North part equals to 5300 ms and finally the area is 22 square kms.
 
The island is almost triangular in its shape and some have resembled it as a "ship sail ".
 
The island has some mountain and heights. There are some moderate steep and sandy land in its north and west banks. But in the other parts there are high banks and high steep rifts. The depth of water is variable around the banks and ocean-going motor tankers get alongside the berths.
 
The climate in the area is hot and humid but because of blowing north winds and existing heights, the climate is to some how more moderate than the other southern parts of the country.  
 
Today the island is one of the most important terminals for the export of crude oil; in this regard the island has been equipped with a lot of facilities and small harbors such as;   
 
Morvarid ( Pearl) Basin: A small harbor which surrounded by a break water in the northern part of the island which is located 1 km west of its north eastern part
 
The Small Harbor of the Navy: A small harbor which is surrounded by a break water to its south and east end and is located 2 Kms SW of NE part of the island.
 
The Small Harbors of OTC; Oil Terminal Company: One is located around 1.5 Kms south of Navy Harbor, in the northern part of a passage which connects the main berth to shore side and the other one is located at the end of SE part of the island and is surrounded by a break water and the depth of water in the harbor is 4.6 – 5.5 ms.
 
The Sea Island terminal is located in the west part of the island around 1.5 Kms away from shore side and the length of the structure is around 1100 ms.

The Darius loading terminal in located around 1.5 Kms away from shore side in the north eastern part of the island.
 
LNG and Sulfur loading terminal which owned by Khark Petrochemical Company, is located at the end of SE of the island. The terminal possesses 1 main mooring buoy and 8 small ones. The main one is connected to the shore side through out a base and a passage from its NW side. The length overall of the terminal is around 360 ms and the depth is 12.8 ms.      
 
The main terminal for loading crude oil which is a T in its shape is located around 2 Kms in the north eastern part at the end of south eastern part of the island. The breadth of which is 37 ms and the length overall is 1.840 ms and has metallic bases, metallic superstructure and a board walk. The height of board walk from the average sea level is 6.7ms.
